Textbook illustration as one of the dominant structure of the textbook, its design was widely pay attention to, because it will directly affect students with learning emotion and learning outcomes. But the quality of illustrations is uneven. The paper chose text analysis as the main research method, then compare and analysis the illustrations in physics textbooks of the new edition in junior high School from China and Japan, through statistical data and typical case analysis to reveal the illustrations overall state and the characteristics of the illustrations in textbooks. The conclusions as follows:1. The differences in the number and density of illustrations(1) In terms of the number and density of illustrations, the illustration number of Japanese textbook is larger, given its textbooks length is less, so its density is much higher than the Chinese textbook illustrations.(2) the common characteristics of Chinese and Japanese textbooks are:two editions of textbooks in the current circuit "," light phenomenon " and other sections are designed with more illustrations. The difference is:Chinese textbook in "sound phenomenon"," change of state " and other sections are designed with more illustrations than Japanese textbooks, while Japanese textbooks in the " force and pressure "," power and energy " and other sections are designed with more illustrations.2. The differences in the location distribution of the illustrations(1) in terms of chapter illustrations in Chinese textbooks is larger than that in Japanese textbooks, but the chapter illustrations in Japanese textbook are good at immediacy, relevancy to the theme, close to the student life experience.(2) The number of columns illustrations in Chinese textbooks is larger than that in Japanese textbooks, while the number of the content illustration in Japanese textbooks is larger than that in Chinese textbooks.3. The differences in the content distribution of the illustrations(1) The proportion of science technology and life illustration, experiment illustration principle simulation illustrations in two editions is large, both editions are attach importance to the use of these three kinds of illustrations By contrast, the number of science technology and life illustrations is larger than that in Japanese textbooks, while the number of experimental illustrations in Japanese textbooks is larger than that in Chinese textbooks.(2) The number of structural illustrations, historical illustrations in Chinese textbooks is larger than that in Japanese textbook while the number of guidance illustrations in Japanese is larger than that in Chinese textbooks.4. The differences in the functional distribution of the illustrationsAbout the function of the illustrations, the common features of the two editions are, the proportion of the representational illustration is the highest, and the proportion of the explanative illustrations is the lowest. The difference is that the Decorative illustrations in Chinese textbooks with the second highest proportion of34%, much higher than the proportion of the Decorative illustrations in Japanese textbooks; while the organizational illustrations in Japanese textbooks with the second highest proportion of28%, much higher than the proportion of organizations illustrations in Chinese textbooks.
