With the development of social economy and increasing internationalcontact, there is more and more need for special skilled talents. Thecomprehensive qualities, practical skills, the application of foreignlanguages and so on, have become one of the most important standards foremploying staffs. What’s more, English has become more and moreimportant for communication. Our Vocational Schools have an importanttask, that is to convey a large amount of professional skilled talents to thesociety, so English teaching becomes more and more important. AndEnglish reading teaching is more important than others. The new EnglishSyllabus considers promoting the students’ reading comprehension as one ofthe most important goals in English teaching. Reading is a main way forpeople to acquire information, study or entertain. Once a vocational schoolstudent owns the ability of reading by himself, he has the ability of learningby himself, and then he has a firm foundation for his further study.Therefore, improving the students’ reading comprehension is an intendedpurpose of English teaching. Traditional reading classes are often boring,while Task-based Language Approach emphasizes “learning by doing”, inwhich learners engage in naturalistic learning through experiencing andexploring language. Diversified tasks not only help to improve thevocational school students’ integrated skills in communicating in English,but also contribute to the cultivation of their self-study ability andcooperative.The paper uses those situations as basis, combining the samecharacteristics of most Vocational Schools, interpret the definition, basicprinciples and model of Task-based approach. Then, with some otherteaching theories, the paper firstly attempts to work out the application ofTask-based approach to teach English reading in the Vocational Schools; then,according to the characteristics of the most Secondary VocationalSchools and its current situation of English learning, combining with ownteaching practices and experience,the paper makes some investigations andstudy, and mainly expounds and proves how to use the task-based approachto teach English reading in the Vocational Schools, for developing students’interest and improving students ‘reading competence and integratecompetence.This study regarded students from two classes in Preschool EducationSpecialty in Baotou Service and Management Vocational School Class1asthe objects of study, quantitative research indicated that before theexperiment in two classes in the same level of English reading, the wholeprocess of the experimental class adopted the task-based teaching method ofreading, the control class adopted traditional teaching method, after onesemester we found that the students in the experimental class Englishreading level has been improved to a certain extent, the students’ interest inreading significantly enhanced, independent reading ability has improved, inaddition, the ability of reading confidence and cooperation to solve theproblem of the students in the experimental class have enhanced. The resultsshow that the task-based teaching method has played a certain positive rolein arousing the students interest in reading, improving the independentreading ability, cultivating cooperation consciousness and enhancingself-confidence...
