| With the advance of the new curriculum reform in high school,Sichuan Province made a full implementation of the new curriculum reform in2010. Anew goal was put forward in the new curriculum, that is, to enhance students’ quality ofexpanding reading. It is not only one the basic qualities of English, but also the mostbasic and most important content of English qualities. So it is of great urgency toresearch the present situation where the high school students are carrying out expandingreading and its promotion strategy.The means of literature, survey and data analysis are manily used in this paper. It isdivided into five parts: the first part, which introduces the origin, purpose andsignificance of the subject, detailedly introduces the ralated knowledge of expandingreading. And based on these, it expounds the definition of expanding reading, andresearch status, research ideas and research methods at home and abroad. The secondpart introduces the investigation methods of this study, and the results of the survey.According to the survey, most of the high school students have basic knowledge ofexpanding reading and have realized expanding reading has the cultural connotation.However, they lack of practical application opportunities of expanding reading, so theirquality of expanding reading is poor and they have lost interest in English reading.Although high school students have a poor skill of reading English, their ability offinding detailed information from reading. On the other hand, they should improve thefollowing skills: one is to get the abilities of inferance, judgement and conclusion; theother is to gain gnosis, improve their moral cultivation and sublimate their personality.The third part, according to the survey results, is based on the interview to find out theinfluencing factors and attribution analysis. The fourth part, based on the results of theanalysis, referring to the domestic and foreign related literature about how to trainsenior students’ qualities of expanding reading, combined with the high school expanding reading characteristics, targeted from the causes of these problems, putforward development strategy of high school students. The fifth part summarized themain achievements, and the existing problems, and pointed out the direction of furtherefforts.The author tries to study the subject to provide theoretical support and practicalreference for the training of high school students expanding reading, and constantlyimprove the high school English education and teaching quality, and promote qualityeducation of our country. |
