It is widely acknowledged that the extensive reading of literature text canimprove the st’udents aesthetic ability and presentation skills. Because of thepressure of the college entrance examination,the teaching of Chinese modernlanguage otfen shows strong utilitarianism. Some teachers either change theinterpretation of modern language into the college entrance examinationproblem-solving instruction lesson due to treating the college entrance”examination as a vane; or change “spoon-fed method into asking all the timewith superficial questions and noisy but empty answers. In the process of learning,the students lack an internal artistic exploration of the structure. The paper isaimed at cultivating students’ ability of reading literary works extensively,gradually improving the students’ aesthetic attitude and encouraging the studentsto understand the topic and some details of works in a microscopic way. As aresult, they will form their own unique understanding, exploration and discoveryas a lifelong habit.Based on the classification of Chinese textbooks of Jiangsu Province, thecharacteristics of different text styles and the theoretic works of extensive reading,the author mainly carrics out her research in the paper in the following3aspects:the contents of extensive reading, the strategy of extensive reading as well as theextension of extensive reading. And the paper focuses on the things as follows:First, the paper strives to explore the Chinese modern intensive principle, theteaching mode,teaching method and the optimization of teaching strategy. Inaddition, the paper analyzes how to make good use of the principle of Chinesemodern intensive reading to improve the students" learning attitudes and interestso as to enhance underachievers’ self-conifdence and their grades. Last but notleast, the paper also shows how to put the strategy of Chinese modern extensivereading into practice. On the basis of these, the students will be aware that to sumup contents of extensive reading, and they are instructed to pay attention to thefollowing7aspects; the changes of pronoun, the key words that repeatedlyappear in the text, the change of word order, the rhetoric, the details, the use ofpunctuation and so on. As for the strategy of extensive reading, the author puts forward the following10guidance of intensive reading: replacing some words,digging the key sentences, counting important words,reading and appreciatingthe text, questioning some problems and arousing interest,accumulating text data,creating intensive reading text, doing comparative reading, analyzing thestructure of a text,taking notes if necessary and so on. As far as the extension ofextensive reading is concerned, the author specializes it into the students’assignments in the following ways: dictation, imitation, writing,readingdebriefing, reading achievement exhibition, writing short essays, with thepurpose of strengthening the learning effects of the intensive reading strategy.Additionally, the author also gives some thought to the intensive readingstrategy, such as what are the specific requirements for teachers in order to carryout extensive reading? How can we embody the effectiveness of extensivereading? What is the misunderstanding of extensive reading? What are the mainobstacles of extensive reading? What is the confusion in the process of carryingout extensive reading? This paper argues that under the new teachingenvironment, in order to deepen the core of a text, the teacher ought to abandonthe utilitarian pursuit and concentrate on the text. By taking advantage of theextensive reading strategy, the teacher is likely to show the essence of readingteaching, letting the students truly appreciating the beauty of the language andliterature. Besides,as for the teaching of extensive reading, the paper alsoprovides some lfexible and effective teaching methods.
