Tenure-track is a mature employment system of teachers, which iswidely used in America nowadays. We used the Tenure-track in our reform of personnelsystem in Chinese university. But someone say that the spirit of that between Chineseand American are opposite. In addition to the form and content, the most importantthing to every system is the value orientation. If we can know the value orientation, wecan know the system well. The topic of this study is The Evolution of the ValueOrientation of Tenure-track in America. It divided into three parts to describe the valueorientations in the period of building, supplement and reformation.The main ways of this study are information retrieval, historical research andspeculative method. Historical research helps me to divide several parts of Tenure-track,and find the conflict behind historical facts. Speculative method is opposite to actionresearch, which is a sort of pure theoretical thinking method. Therefore, the thinkingframe of the study decided base on the concept about value orientation. In order toknow about the concept of value orientation must make sure a specific period. And thenextract the conflict behind the events related to Tenure-track. Last but not least, analyzethe value tendency under the conflict with the content about Tenure-track. The steps arethe process to finding out value orientation of system. They also can explain how towrite the part three to five.There are six parts in this thesis:Part one is introduction, concluded the reasons, meanings to this topic, conceptdefinition, research status and research methods.Part two describes the condition about Tenure-track before its institutionalization.Although the topic is The Evolution of the Value Orientation of Tenure-track in America, but I firmly believe that there was a value tendency in teacher employmentsystem in colleges and universities in America. So I put this part before the contentabout Tenure-track value orientation.Part three, four, five are the core parts in this thesis. All these parts adopted thesame construction—historical context, characteristic and evaluation—to conduct thevalue orientation of Tenure-track in each period. The part of characteristic is the priorityamong priorities,which can derived conflict from historical facts.Part six is conclusion, which is retrospect to the evolution of the value orientationof Tenure-track in America.
