The university is not only the cradle of production and transmission of knowledge, training high quality talents,but also the conscience of mankind. The status and role of the University in the era of knowledge economy is increasingly prominent. Now in the world, the achievements of American higher education has attracted worldwide attention, which is closely related to their university education concept, structure model and management system. Academic freedom, university autonomy and tenure is three significant characteristics of the American University, the three aspects are interrelated. The academic freedom and university autonomy is the basic features since its inception, and tenure system is budding a teacher management system, the personnel management system can be as important as the former, show the unique value of existence. It can be said that it is the guarantee to implement American University accelerator and markers of academic freedom and the concept of autonomy, is the inevitable requirement of the former and the cornerstone of existence, of course, as a concept and the provisions of the safeguard measures, it with the former especially the relationship between academic freedom and there are many that need to be discussed and modified space, although still exist and abolishment of controversy, but it is a historical necessity, also is in the long-term practice, experienced a period of 100 years of ups and downs. Backtracking and combing its history, especially in the academic freedom, which is one of the modern university and save the waste of the network were surveyed and reflected. in order to truly grasp its existence value and the significance, can we truly understand its mode of operation and monitor the dynamic operation and as will as the valuable reference to a system will be the introduction of digestion and complement for mutual use.In view of this, this paper discusses the evolution of the relationship between business and academic freedom in the tenure of the American University, in order to optimize the allocation of resources in China for the teachers to provide reference and Enlightenment in many aspects. Paper is divided into six parts.Firstly, the author expounds the reason and significance of the study and an overview of domestic and foreign to American University tenure and academic freedom research situation, defines the core concepts involved, and briefly introduces the research ideas and research methods.The first part introduces the historical background of the relationship between tenure and academic freedom in American University. From the teacher’s career crisis and academic crisis, and then analyze the reasons of the two associations. This historical background calls for the emergence of the tenure system in universities to ensure the rights of teachers to implement academic freedom, which is an external motivation.The second part is mainly about the budding stage of the relationship between tenure and academic freedom in American University. Although the two made it clear at the beginning of the 20 th century, but before the university teachers as the University tenure of body has begun to pursue the freedom of belief and the freedom of thought.
