The Application Of Narrative Therapy In The Elderly Social Work

This thesis is an applied research about narrative therapy in elderly social work, In recent years, the trend of China’s aging population is becoming more and more serious. The elderly who faced life adaptation issues were increasingly prominent. After aging, whether physical, mental or social level, great changes would happened, which directly affected the life quality of the elderly. Jinan as the capital city of Shandong province, where the severity of the aging population was in the forefront of the country. So the problems of the elderly has been gradually attracted the attention of the public. Based on this situation and the professional internship experience, a community of Jinan city in Shandong province of the elderly as an example, the author started to study and discuss on this topic.The narrative therapy began in the eighty’s of last century, which has becoming a new paradigm in social work practice. The narrative therapy was the clerk and case "close cooperation" as the foundation, which emphasized the story narrative and narrative again, promoted the life reconstruction. The author combined the mutual relationship between the professional values and the elderly social work, tried to apply the narrative therapy in the old social work. The purpose was that the elderly had a better ability to adapt to society and a better quality of life through the research. Realizing the fundamental purpose of life——"medical care, physically, learning, worthiness and a feeling of happiness".In our country, the narrative therapy theory is still in its infancy, so which research in the field of social work practice is relatively rare. The author used a case study approach in the study and began to in-depth community elderly life story. Through face-to-face interviewed with the old man, the author collected an enormous amount of information and had a preliminary understanding and analysis of the problems and needs in the elderly life. Then who gradually used the narrative therapy approach into the actual problems of the elderly. When the problems involved, the author started to evaluate the results of the interventional therapy through interviewing again.It was that basically completed the reconstruction of the elderly life and who started to face the future life with a new attitude and a new way. It was very helpful.Finally, the professional reflection and suggestions of this study were put forward.The theoretical significance of this study was to deepen the overall understanding of the demand of the elderly through the analysis and intervention of their elderly life adaptation problems and needs. At the same time, this thesis proved how the narrative therapy theories and skills were used in the elderly social work practice. According to the reflection of its theory and practice, it can be applied to make up the inadequacy of current elderly social work research. Its practical significance lies in the fact that it enriches the localization of elderly social work experience in China, and has reference significance for future services in the related practice work, moreover, this thesis encourages the government and the society to pay more attention to the old man, constantly improves the service system, and increases the service quality.
