| Reading ability is one of the most basic Chinese accomplishments. Ithas been put forward in Chinese Curriculum Standards of Compulsory Education in2011that students play the most significant role in study. The book also emphasizedthat independent reading could broaden students’ knowledge horizons, innovate theircomprehension, improve their personalities, as a result, it would lay a solid foundationfor students’ overall development and lifelong learning. The study about independentreading is becoming more and more ascendant. Although there already are somepractices and researches about independent reading, blank spaces also exist. Based onsome relevant theories on study, this thesis studies the current situation of independentreading of students from the unique aspect of middle school students living in theoutskirts of town. The author combines theory with practice and brings forward herown viewpoint. The thesis can be divided into four chapters.Chapter One: introductionThis chapter is aimed at elucidating the cultural background and researchmeaning of independent reading on literal works.Chapter TwoIn this chapter, based on three diverse-leveled suburb schools, the author analyzesstudents and teachers in independent reading class by utilizing observation scale.Chapter ThreeA questionnaire on independent reading about literal works for students in theoutskirts of townIn this chapter, by modeling and analyzing the data from surveys on teachers,students, and parents, the author represents the delectable change in students’independent reading. Chapter FourThe strategies to cultivate middle school students’ independent reading skilland abilityIn this chapter, the author combines theories with practices, and brings about thesuggestion that in order to improve students’ reading quality and efficiency inindependent reading, the school and families should work together to provide anoptimized reading environment and stimulate students’ interests in independentreading. What’s more, teachers should enhance students’ reading method by takingtexts in the book as examples and develop students’ language sensibilities, so as tohelp students cultivate favorable habits on independent reading. |
