Research On The Current Situation Of Homework For Summer Holidays Of Junior Middle School Students In Shanghai

Homework is the supplement of classroom teaching, an important part in basic teaching and an integral part of students learning process. Scientific and reasonable homework can not only contribute to the consolidation of English knowledge and skills, but also create successful experience for students and check teaching effect for teachers, which can lead to a better teaching plan. Thus, homework plays an important role in both learning and teaching.Homework for holidays is common in China. Generally speaking, teachers tend to assign a large amount of homework during long holidays. In recent years, there’re a lot complaints about holiday homework in China’s primary and junior middle schools. We can’t deny the fact that students do not love holiday homework which causes the copying of homework and gives birth to ghostwriting business. The phenomenon stirs up a national debate on the newspaper and internet. People begin to question the content, quality and quantity of holiday homework. Thus, educators should meditate on these issues to solve these problems.This research is on the current situation of homework for summer holidays of junior middle school students in Shanghai. By means of questionnaires for students and teachers, the research collects data on such aspects as students’ attitude toward holiday homework, overall homework completion, students’demand for summer homework and forms of summer homework, etc. Then, by analyzing the data and get the related aspects of the objective data. Then, by analyzing the data, conclusions about the general situation of holiday homework will be drawn. The research also discusses about major issues existing in holiday homework and teachers’ participation and evaluation of homework. On this basis, suggestion will be proposed to improve the current situation of the summer homework.In the future, this research can provide a reference for English holiday homework scientific design, including assignment, homework design and teacher’s evaluation, to improve English holiday homework assignments. It also aims to further promote students’ English learning, eliminate their fear for the traditional holiday homework, change their attitude toward holiday homework and eventually improve the holiday homework completion.
