The Application Of Group Work In Intervening The Problem Behavior Of The Single-parent Families’ Children

Since the reform and opening-up, China’s growing community of transformationalchange triggered a rapid change of marriage and family. The formation of single-parentfamilies which is caused by the divorced, the widowed, or the unmarried pregnant hasbecome to be specific groups. They need urgent social attention and helping. Due to theSingle-parent families’ children lack of complete parental love, it will lead to psychologicaldevelopment of children being not normal. And then there was a great deal of behavioralproblems. If not be guided timely and correctly, it will affect their personal lives as well associal harmony. Group work has some advantages such as highly activities targeted, fullinvolvement and so on. Thus, it shows its unique advantages in intervening the children ofsingle-parent families’ behavioral problems.In this study, take the first of Suzhou Venture Philanthropy Project "Energy inn” forexample, through interviews, literature review, observation and other methods to collectquestionnaire data, to understand the problems exist of the behavior of single-parentfamilies’ children. Being based on this, through carrying out group work of weekendschool, we attempt to investigate the effectiveness of the methods of group work involvedin single-parent families in the problem behavior of children. Sequentially it can providesome suggestions and thinking for the future work of intervening the behavior problem ofchildren of single-parent families.
