The syllabus of Chinese teaching both in the past and in contemporary era attachesimportance to “the cultivation of students’ love of mother tongue”, so language training is alwaysthe main task of Chinese curriculum and language teaching. Elegant language is a type oflanguage which is elegant, beautiful and virtuous and elegant language training in conventionalChinese classes of high school has extraordinary values, for it could develop students’ IQ, EQ,MQ and competency of Chinese language and so on. The thesis is attempted to explore the valuesand countermeasures of elegant language training in conventional Chinese classes of high school.Main contents are as follows:The first chapter is introduction. It introduces research background, research purpose,research significance and reviews research about concept of elegant language and the elegantlanguage training. A working definition of elegant language and elegant language training is alsoput forward in the chapter.The second chapter is about theoretical basis of the value of elegant language training.Under the framework of the theory of “language is the home of being” proposed by Heideggerand the theory of poetry put forward by Confucius, the thesis explains the rationality of elegantlanguage training in conventional Chinese classes of high school.The third chapter presents the educational value of elegant language training. The thesisdemonstrates the necessity of research on elegant language training in terms of its benefits ofstrengthening students’ Chinese competence, disseminating traditional Chinese culture andpromoting language education reform.The fourth chapter is about an investigation of elegant language training in conventionalChinese classes of high school. Containing questionnaire and interview, the investigation has twodimensions: cognition and practice. In cognition, students’ understanding of elegant language training is not clear and the students and teachers are not aware of the important value ofelegant language training; in practice, the source of elegant language training content is limited,the approaches of elegant language training lack effectiveness, the methods of elegant languagetraining are too traditional. The author thinks there are two possible reasons for the aboveproblems, one is the teachers and students do not have a correct understanding of elegant languagetraining, and the other is the negative influence from exam-oriented evaluation system of Chineseteaching.The fifth chapter is about countermeasures of elegant language training in conventionalChinese classes of high school. Measures include nourishing the teaching ideas of the elegantlanguage training, developing the elegant language training courses, proposing ways to the elegantlanguage training, innovating the elegant language training methods, improving thecomprehensive literacy of Chinese teachers in high schools and changing the evaluation methodsof Chinese language teaching in high schools.This thesis demonstrates the educational values of elegant language training and puts forwardcountermeasures of elegant language training, which will help improve the Chinese teachingsituation like the utilitarian-orientation of Chinese language training and the use of vulgarlanguage from teachers and students.
