A Study On The Relationship Between Northwestern Colleges And Universities And Frontier Society During The Period Of Nanjing National Government (1927-1949)

Since the Nanjing National Government was formally established in1927,northwest frontier regions, which drifted away from the central authority ago, havereturned to the centralization. Northwest frontier regions with a backward economicaldevelopment, transport hurdles and cultural atmosphere of conservative, made itsbackwardness of education, especially for the less of colleges and universities at thistime. As an important position of cultivating professionals, Northwestern colleges anduniversities had a close relationship with development the frontier society. It alsoprovided important support to scientific knowledge and talents for the developmentand construction of frontier society in order to promote the development of northwestfrontier regions.Because of the relationship between northwest colleges and universities andfrontier society was unidirectional that colleges and universities supported frontiersociety, but frontier society did not necessarily support to northwest colleges anduniversities in the period of Nanjing National Government. The thesis mainlyanalyzes the relationship between northwest colleges and universities and frontiersociety in the period of Nanjing National Government from four parts. Firstly, thepaper analyzes the enrollment status and personal training situation of northwesterncolleges and universities for frontier regions; on this basis, this paper elaborates thefrontier research of northwest colleges and universities, through the three aspects:northwest frontier scientific researches and the main areas and values of socialresearch in northwestern colleges and universities, the development frontier researchactivities and the rise and the impact of frontier social research. Secondly, the paperanalyzes the frontier social service activities of northwestern colleges and universitiesthrough the frontier service research of Northwestern University, Northwest NormalUniversity and Lanzhou University. Finally, the paper evaluates their historicalcontributions and inspirations for contemporary by summarizing the frontier societyconstruction achievements of northwestern colleges and universities. Throughout the Nanjing National Government, the northwestern colleges anduniversities have a close relationship with northwest frontier society. Northwesterncolleges and universities made achievements in the development and construction offrontier society, especially for cultivating professionals, developing of frontierresearches and frontier services. It also provided important support to scientificknowledge and talents for the development and construction of frontier society andpromoted the rapid development of education, economy, health, agriculture andanimal husbandry in northwest frontier regions. Meanwhile, it laid the foundation forthe development of the western development after the founding of People’s Republicof China; so its contribution is great.
