In recent years there are a number of serious disasters around the world, and Chinais no exception. Various disasters not only threaten the people’s life, but also a threat topeople’s lives and property safety. However, the disaster awareness in our nation is weak,so is the capacity of the disaster prevention and reduction. Compared with somedeveloped countries in the world, we are still lacking in the basic learning of disasterprevention. Like the advocating passage “International Decade for Natural DisasterReduction” pointed out,"Education is the central part of the disaster reduction, andknowledge is the key to the success of disaster reduction." Thus can be seen that thedisaster learning should be started from school, schools are the best places to carry outstudents’ disaster learning. The geography plays a significant role in their disasterlearning. Therefore, it is much more important to grasp how to teach students aboutdisasters knowledge in the geography classes.This thesis is based on the current situation of disaster learning in geography classesfor senior school students in rural areas of China, through conduct a survey of thesestudents who come from three senior schools in Qin’an County, Gansu Province. Thesurvey mainly contains the senior students’ opinions about disaster prevention andreduction, the ways where they acquire disaster knowledge, the disaster knowledgestorage and so on. In the survey of senior school geography teaching in rural areas thefollowing issues can be seen:1. The teaching content is mainly based on books, doesnot tally with the local actual disaster prevention and reduction requirements.2. Focuson the principles of disaster prevention and reduction, ignore relevant skills.3. Mainlybased on class teaching, the form is single; there is a relative lack of disaster drills.4.Disaster knowledge is messy, scattered, and lacking in relative system.5. Students donot have a good grasp of the basic disaster knowledge.6. A serious lack of disasterprevention and reduction drills.7. Do not have a strong consciousness of disaster.8. Thelack of understanding in the importance of disaster education in senior school geography.9. On the concept recognition about disaster learning is not accurate.Finally, based on the analysis of the survey, the author also gives some suggestions on how to improve the senior school geography disaster education in rural areas.It is believed that the conclusions and recommendations from the survey, whichshould have a certain guiding significance for carrying out senior geography disastereducation in rural areas.
