Since twenty-first Century, it has been fully aware of the importance of environmentalliteracy education. It is one of the important ways to improve the natural environment. With a newround of curriculum reform, the status of environmental literacy education in basic education isbecoming more and more serious. The junior high school stage of compulsory education is notonly the key period of the development of students’ scientific literacy, and also a crucial period forthe development of students’ environmental literacy.The author chooses students in different grades of a few junior middle schools in differentareas of Ningbo Jiangbei District as the research object. Through the questionnaire, interviews andother methods, we investigate the environmental literacy status of these schools systematically. Wepaid a total of940questionnaires.928valid questionnaires of them were recovered excluding theunfinished and not answer to12questionnaires. So the recovery rate reached98.7%. TheseSamples, which cover the students in Jiangbei district of Ningbo city widely, reflects fully thecurrent environmental literacy of students in junior middle schools of Jiangbei district.Through summary of interviews and statistics of questionnaire we found that:(1) In theenvironmental literacy test the highest score is102points, the lowest is53points, the average is82.6088points, environmental literacy level of students in junior middle school of Jiangbei districtis above the average in general.(2) Girls’ environmental literacy is better than boys’.(2)The cityschool students’ environmental literacy is better than rural school students.(3) Environmentalliteracy of students from the middle-class families is better than the students from rich families andpoor families.(4) Environmental literacy of the students with the scientific achievements above theaverage is the highest, and students’ less than60points is the lowest.(5) Environmental literacy ofstudents increases with grade in general.(6) There is a significant correlation betweenenvironmental literacy and science teaching.(7) Between environmental emotion and environmentskills correlation does not exist. However, there is high correlation between other four variables.(8)Most of the investigated students aspire to the beautiful natural environment. They have a wealth of knowledge and realize the importance of harmony between human being and the environment, butthe larger part of the students is still lack of good environmental behavior, habits and skills.In this paper, through the investigation on the environmental literacy of junior middle schoolstudents and analysis of relevant data, we draw relevant conclusion, thus putting forward relevantstrategies of implement of environmental literacy education in the science curriculum of juniormiddle school, so that environmental literacy education and science curriculum can fusion organicto improve the students’ environmental literacy.
