| Huaqiao University, with special educational missions and purposes, issubordinate to the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of thePeople’s Republic of China. With the social and economic development, institutionsof higher education is facing unprecedented challenges and opportunities. How tobuild a university adapted to social developments, is an urgent and realistic questionfacing Huaqiao University.This paper adopts research methods, such as studies of colleges and universities,literature research, interview, historical research, and comparative analysis. Based onthe study and analysis of development strategies for high-level colleges anduniversities both at home and abroad, combined with strategic management method,this paper finds out the internal advantages and disadvantages of HuaqiaoUniversity,as well as opportunities and threats from the external environment, byconducting researches on the internal environment, macro-environment, taskenvironment, and major competitors. By using SWOT analysis method, developmentstrategies for Huaqiao University are chosen, strategic guiding ideology andprinciples, strategic thinking and positioning, as well as the very strategic target of“prominently featuring overseas Chinese affairs, coordinated development of variousdisciplines, key disciplines being first class nationally, establishing a world-famoushigh-level university cultivating talents and elites with an international vision†aremade. Based on the choosing and making of strategies, strategy implementationregulations such as implementing “three major supporting systemsâ€, constructing andpaying adequate attention to “eight major projects†are put forward, to ensure thesmooth realization of strategic targets.The using of strategic management theory in this paper is an innovation in thedevelopment strategy making for overseas Chinese higher education. The study onthe development strategies of Huaqiao University is an attempt to provide realisticguidings for its future development, and cast light on the development of overseasChinese institutions of higher education. |
