English textbooks of our country has various types, multiple sources and are rich incontent in the Republic of China.It have a great significance to the research on Englishteaching of senior high schools in China. The publishing of English textbooks hasexperienced a complex developing process in the Republic of China, that’s from scratchand moved toward prosperity. Because it is very difficult to collect the English textbooksof senior high schools in that period, so there is a few research on this topic.The paper will study the development of English curriculum standards and thetextbooks’ reform of senior high school in the Republic of China based on the collection ofEnglish textbooks in the Republic of China. By a basic understanding of the reform onsenior school education and English education background, the paper will try to sum up thefeatures of the English textbooks of senior high school in the Republic of China and thenput forward suggestions.This paper is divided into six parts.The first part is introduction. This part mainly introduces the proposal of the topic,thepurposes of the research, the significance of the research and the methods of the research.The second part is review of the literature. This part introduces the related researchesat home and abroad as well as the theoretical basis of the research and make a summaryat last.The third part is the English teaching reform of senior high schools in the Republic ofChina, which analyzes the changes of the English curriculum standard and the backgroundof English education, describe the development of the textbooks.The fourth part is the analysis of the English textbooks of senior high schools in theRepublic of China. The author understand the basic situation such as structure set, guidingideology, content arrangement, writing intention, total number of pages through theanalysis of the samples, then summarize the features of the textbooks at that time.The fifth part, suggestions for the reform of the English textbooks for senior highschools. With the development of era, new textbooks and old textbooks replace continually,history have certain experience to modern world.The English textbooks of senior highschool should be varied to facilitate the selection, when using the textbooks,teachersshould choose the suitable teaching methods according to the actual situation of studentsand the different characteristics of textbooks, paying attention to multicultural fusion.Focus on strengthening the training of teachers, in order to maximize the use of textbooks and relevant English teaching materials. At the same time, the bad competition of violentpublishing should be avoided.The sixth part is conclusion. It including the main findings, the limitations of theresearch and some issues which to be further studied.
