As industrialization and urbanization advance quickly in China, there has been a growing momentum of floating population among urban and rural areas. During this process when rural labor forces are transferred to non‐agriculture sector and urban areas, due to improper household registration and land system, they move like “a bird of passage”, which leads to long‐term separation of parents and children and also the special social disadvantaged groups—“rural left‐behind children”. It is reported that left‐behind children in rural China now total more than60million, of which70%age less than14years. Because of rural cultural rupture, less‐developed education and urban‐rural dual system, the ideological and moral education on rural left‐behind children are often in a “vacuum”, which constitutes a “disaccord” in the building of a harmonious society. Moral education on rural left‐behind children is not only related to their own healthy growth, normal lives and production of tens of millions of rural families, but also to social stability and economic development in rural areas. On the basis of first‐hand information via questionnaires, unstructured interviews and literature collection, the dissertation stays focused on rural left‐behind children in Hong’ an county. It begins with specifically explaining the current situation of rural left‐behind children from the aspects of family education, school education, social education, family support, mental and physical condition as well as security protection, and further analyses their major problems in moral understanding, moral emotion, moral will and moral behavior. Based on all mentioned above, the dissertation also analyses the reasons behind from the dimensions of family education, school education, functions of the government and social environment and at last puts forward some feasible countermeasures.
