Since the21st century, many countries in the world have introduced vocational education policy and strategy to facilitate vocational education reform and development. In recent years. China has undergone rapid economic development and experienced industrial structure upgrading so that it requires a large amount of skilled workforce. In order to promote the sustainable development of vocational education, it needs to focus on the study of the vocational education policy. In the last decade, Australia is continuing to adopt new policy strategies to promote the development of vocational education. Therefore, the study Australian vocational education could inspirable for policy development of vocational education in China.The paper consists of six parts.Section one is introduction. This section is to explain the purpose of the study, reviews the previous studies on the policy development of Australia vocational education and training, defines some core concepts and introduces the ideas and methods using in the paper.Section two introduces the background, visions and objectives of Shaping our future-Australia s national strategy for vocational education and training2004-2010. It analyzes the implementation strategies and characteristics of the strategy.Section three illustrates the contents ofSkilling for Australia:new directions for vocational education and training. It elaborates new approaches of the policy, which consists of national governance and accountability framework, industry leadership and engagement, national skills framework.Section four analyzes the recommendations and implementation measures of2009foundations for the future-proposals for future governance, architecture and market design of the national training system.Section five interpretates the policy of Skills for prosperity-a roadmap for vocational education and training. Under the auspices of the Skills Australia, it finally introduces the roadmap. This part detailed analyzes the content and the specific implementation of the roadmap.Section six illustrates the inspiration of the development of vocational education policy in Australia for China, which includes the improvement of the management system of vocational education, the foundation of the investment mechanism, the establishment of quality monitor system and the implementation of the insudtry’s role in the vocational education system.
