Problems And Countermeasures On Student Management In Modern Distance Education

The modern distance education is an important part of our higher education. Since the pilot work in1999, it has been gradually expanding its scale and the number of students. The students of distance education come from learning centers across the country and work in all walks of lives. They have much specificity such as the culture base, learning goals and age structure, besides the student management is so different in each pilot university that the student quality of modern distance education is faced with doubts and controversial reputation in society. So it is very necessary to study the effective student management ways in modern distance education.Taking the H University as an study object, the paper summarized the major problems in student management, first, the management goals ignore the cultivation of students’ comprehensive quantity, then, the management ways was lack in personalization and individuation, and the management effect differed in the virtual and true management environment. The paper also analyzed the factors influencing the student management, such as the students’individual factors, the diversities of the cooperation model between the university and the learning centers, and the lack of professional knowledge for administration stuff. Finally, the paper considered we could use the organization theory for reference and cultivate students to learn self-study,self-management and self-development in the student management in modern distance education. In the entity management, we should fully exert the functions of learning centers and make them flexibly use the essence of Zero Management Theory to complete their works in student management, so that the learning centers and the pilot university could make effort together to improve the student management work to realize the healthy, steady and constant development in modern distance education.
