In compliance with the standard of new course, class structure is mainly composed of basics-oriented courses, expansion-oriented courses and research-oriented courses. New course reform requires the reform of teaching method, especially the expansion-oriented teaching method for the students. The expansion-oriented teaching method aims at the cultivation of self-centered consciousness, perfection of cognitive structure and improvement of self-planning capability and self-choice capability, focuses on the breeding, ignition and development of students’interests and hobbies, taps the students’potential to the full and finally promotes the development of students’ individual characters and distinctive characteristics for the school. By expansion-oriented teaching method, achieved are the better work habit and reading habit for the students, cultivation for students of the comprehensive thinking, dialectical thinking, comprehensive analysis of problems, grasp of the main contradiction, elimination of the fake and retention of the true, shaping of the right thinking mode, improvement of the ability of independent analysis and solution of problems.The application of expansion-oriented teaching method and the way for its application are very important for history course, an important subject in senior high school and core subject for art and humanities major students. Based on the study on the expansion-oriented teaching method in senior high school history class, this research attempts to find a break-through for reform in the senior high school history teaching.Under the guide of the relevant curriculum theories, teaching methods and educational theories, this paper, based on the relevant research, digs deep into the expansion-oriented teaching in senior high school history course and makes multi-angles and multi-level analysis by way of survey and interviews. After this, effective measures and suggestions are put forward. After the explanation of the connotation of expansion-oriented teaching in history course and the theoretical bases for study, analysis is made on the necessity and importance of expansion-oriented teaching. With examples, exposition, on the ways of expansion, is made from five aspects:expansion toward the text, life, subject, thinking mode and study method. Finally reflections are made on this study from the requirement and challenges on teachers by expansion-oriented teaching method and principles that should be abided by.Hopefully, this study will pave way for further study on issues concerning the expansion-oriented teaching and the how. At the same time, the study, as a reference for new curriculum reform and reform of class teaching methods, can help improve educational management quality to a great extent, implement educational policies and really achieve educational goals. Hopefully the practice of expansion-oriented teaching will help enrich students’knowledge, provide new perspectives for thinking, apply what students have learned into real lives, improve inter-subject abilities, master the right study methods and improve comprehensive abilities.
