Objective: the starting of this study is from views on the adaptability of walking skills.Explore the relationships between the adaptability of walking skills and risk of fallingin the elderly. Developing a scale which for evaluating the adaptability of walkingskills on the older. To predict the risk of falling by using the scale which is developedby ourselves. Methods: the adaptability of walking skills and risk of falling in the elderly areanalyzed by the questionnaire survey and the mathematical statistics. The studyconsists of two parts:Part one, first of all, a large number of Chinese and foreign literature and papers havebeen consulted. The indexes which for evaluating the adaptability of walkingskills-related have been filtered out, and then, the scale for evaluating the adaptabilityof walking skills has been drawn. Selected223volunteers whose age is60or above inTianjin, the basic state and the development on the adaptability of walking skills inthese people have been surveyed. The reliability and validity, feasibility anddiagnostic validity on the scale have been tested, effectiveness and viability of thescale are proved. The part of two: Inquiring234old people in Tianjin with the scalewhich are invented lately. Relying on the processing on the data on the basic state andadaptability of walking skills in the elderly, the present falls have been analyzedfrom the gender, age, occupation, prevalence, types of medication, type of exercise, and exercise frequency in the old people.Result:(1) the scale that be invented by ourselves is for evaluating the adaptability ofwalking skills, which can test the adaptability of walking skills in the elderlyaccurately, and with better predicting function on the risk of falling.(2) If the scoring≤7on the scale, the walking adaptability of the elderly are judged aslow, and with a high fall risk.(3) Adaptability of Walking skills and the risk of falling can not be influenced by the gender in the elderly.(4) Compare to the older groups, younger groups are more adaptable on the walkingskills, the fall risk are lower. The adaptability of the old people who are with the riskof falling can not decline with the age growing. And the risk of falling can notincrease.(5) The old people who lives alone are with less adaptable on the walking skills, therisk of falling are much higher.(6) The adaptability of walking skills and the risk of falling are in the elderly who areengaged in different professions are at the same level.(7) The old people who suffering from a disease are less adaptable in walking skilland with much higher risk of falling than the elderly who do not.(8) The elderly who taking medicine are less adaptable and with much higher risk offalling than the elderly who do not.(9) The old people who participating in exercise and achieving higher frequenciesregularly are more adaptable on the walking skills and with much less risk of falling.(10) Mountain Climbing in improving the adaptability of walking skills are morehelpful. But, the old people who are with risk of falling take part in different ways ofexercise, which will not make the adaptability of walking skills less and increase therisk of falling.
