During recent decades, ecosocialism developed rapidly and maintained a big influence.As a key figure in American Eco-socialism study, Joel Kovel wrote The Enemy of Nature in which comprehensively showed his ecosocialism thought. His thought made a great impact on today’s Green Movement in US.Kovel inherits the critical spirit of Marxism, he proceeds from the anti-ecology of capital to explore the institutional root of ecological crisis, and he insists that Capital’s expansion and penetration is the root cause for global ecological crisis, any improvement of Capitalism will never succeed, only replace the Capitalism system fundamentally can solve the ecological problems completely.Based on criticizing Capitalism ecological politics and traditional socialism, Kovel expounds his prefiguration about future society from two aspects, that is, liberate use-value and restore the intrinsic value of nature, and realize ecocentric production. Afterwards, he explains the realization paths to future society on three aspects, patterns of ecosocialist mobilization, the general model of ecosocialist transformation and the ecosocialist party.In this essay, I characterize Kovel’s thought as a critical, revolutionary and Christian theory. Because Kovel made breakthrough in comprehension on Marxism and critique on Capitalism. He also made new vision for future society. But there are some flaws in Kovel’s theory, such as exaggeration, assertiveness and utopianism. China is undergoing a political reform and building Eco-Civilization, Kovel’s ecosocialism thought have a great significance for reference to us.
