The Research Of Joel Kovel’s Ecological Socialism

Along with economic development,social progress and the strengthening of globalization trend,the ecological crisis is increasing serious and is closing to the edge of collapse. The related research of ecosystem is also emerging endlessly,the famous American scholar Joel Kovel is the author of the Enemy of Nature, which is an important book to the ecological crisis. This article is in the basis of the translation and interpretation of this book. In this book,Kovel reveals the secret of capital growth,demonstrates that the seeking of money is the nature of the capital and concludes that the root cause of ecological crisis is the capital. At the same time,he criticizes the capitalism ecological improvement scheme,thinks science and technology and green economy can not eliminate the ecological crisis. Then,he analysis that because of lack of socialist democracy and backward economy,the traditional socialism also can not save the ecosystem. On the basis of above,he proposes a scheme to construct ecological socialism and expound in details about the construction principle and way of ecological socialism. This article through combing the theory of ecological socialism and pointing out its contributions and limitations to provide some useful theoretical perspective to restore the ecosystem.At the same time,it can offers some suggestions to the ecological civilization construction of China.This article mainly divides into five parts, the first part is the introduction, mainly is about clearing the reason of the thesis research and significance, surveying research status at home and abroad, straitening out the thinking of writing and analysis methods, and knowing the innovations and shortcomings of the paper.In the second part, Kovel concerns the nature of ecological crisis, mainly through demonstrating capital is the culprit of ecological crisis,so pointing out that the ecological crisis is the inevitable result of the development of capitalism.In the third part,Kovel criticizes the ecological crisis and the social system, first criticizes capitalism critique of ecological improvement scheme, then discusses the fault of traditional socialist countries in the aspect of ecological protection.In the fourth part,Kovel constructs the related ecological socialism revolutionary ideas, mainly including the realization of the potential of ecological socialism, construction principle and path.The fifth part mainly judges Kovel’s ecological socialism and finds its enlightenment to China’s reconstruction of ecological civilization.
