Research On The Problem And Strategy Of The Elderly Long-term Care

This study is a field research of the elderly long-term care, trying to analyze the problems of the elderly long-term care, and to explore on the basis of using the experience of developed countries and regions for reference, how to base on the national conditions, to provide the system guarantee to the aged and to provide care support to families.Based on the background of our country’s aging process and economic and social structural changes, taking Xiamen city as a case study, and focuses on the angle of care recipients and care providers. Based on the previous research, firstly, the article describes the current situation of the elderly long-term care from the aspects of marital status, living conditions, social security, health status, care resources. Then according to the living situation of the elderly and care providers’ individual depth interview data summarize the elderly long-term care needs of the care recipients and care providers, the care support issues, and solutions of developed countries and areas. Finally, according to the elderly long-term care problems in Xiamen city, raising corresponding suggestions from two aspects of the elderly long-term care policy and specific measures.The study found that the mainly long-term care mode of majority of disabled, semi disabled elderly is the traditional family care. However, due to family members under double pressure of work and life, can no longer keep providing high quality of long term care services for the elderly, While the elderly due to fail to get family meticulously care and social effective care support, not only the body has long suffered from the illness, and gradually loss expectation on the joys of life. The developed countries and regions’ practice shows that long-term care for the elderly is not purely personal and family problems, but a public issue of the whole society to face. In other words, for the elderly long term care problems existing in our country, we should advocate through social shared threats and mutual support ways to defuse the risk of long-term care for the elderly. Government, market, non-governmental organizations and other formal care should all work together, especially the government should strengthen the rule of law thinking and aging consciousness, concerns the special needs of disabled elderly, change the role and take active actions, to provide the system guarantee to the aged and to provide care support to families, in order to respond to the elderly and their family even the whole society’s expectations of the elderly long-term care services.
