There has been the history of 50 years of since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Australia from 1965, while the Period of Lee Kuan Yew just witnessed the establishment and development of diplomatic relations of two countries. The development of relations of Singapore and Australia during the Period of Lee Kuan Yew has laid a solid foundation for the development of relations between the two countries. During this particular historical period, both Singapore and Australia have made some achievements in terms of political, defense, economic,trade and cultural exchanges.At the political level, Australia is the first country which established the diplomatic relations with Singapore after its independence. After that, Singapore and Australia had experienced three periods of development of political relations. From the political “distrust” at the very beginning, both of the countries lead to the road of political mutual trust; on defense cooperation, in order to safeguard its national“survival”, Singapore chose the strategy of safe development suitable for its national conditions after its independence. And on this basis, it conducted the defense cooperation with Australia. The defense cooperation between Singapore and Australia has undergone the early Five Power Defence Arrangements(FPDA), to the subsequent bilateral defense cooperation and joint military exercises; in terms of economic and trade cooperation; they conducted the bilateral cooperation in the new economy field. In addition, along with economic globalization, Singapore and Australia conducted the economic cooperation in the multilateral economic cooperation organization; at the perspective of cultural exchange,thus enhanced the feelings of the two peoples. However, the differences in cultural values between the two countries have also lead to some problems to the bilateral relations of them.
