Relations with Malaysia are a very important part in Singapore's foreign relations. Singapore's foreign policy towards Malaysia has been kept unstable and constantly varied from the period of independence to its economic booming in the 1990s. Thus the bilateral relations between Singapore and Malaysia are complicated and subtle.The paper includes four parts. Chapter one points out that Lee Kuan Yew's wrong cognition became the essential part of his idea of crisis of survival. Chapter two analysis that how Lee Kuan Yew's sense of survival has influenced the foreign policy of Singapore in the early period of its independence. Chapter three deals with the Singapore-Malaysian relations in the 1970s. Chapter four investigates the differences between Lee Kuan Yew and his successors, the new generation of Singaporean leaders. If finds that these differences lead the confusion of Singapore foreign policy and the uncertainty of its relations with Malaysia. The last part puts forward two questions on Singapore's foreign policy.
