| Community is the basic element of social management and the foundation of socialstability. With the acceleration of China’s urbanization process, the original villagecommunity in agricultural China has been dissolved by the rise of new-type urbancommunity, which is now taking shape with the restructuring of space and increase ofpopulation. However, as the soul of community, the sense of belongingness and identityhas not increased accordingly, giving rise to the conflict with the needs andrequirements of community residents. Such conflict has increasingly reflected theimportance of community participation. How to establish a community managementsystem and create a sustainable participation mechanism becomes the central issue ofsocial management in nowadays China.Based on an analysis of current situations in urban community participationmechanism, this study focuses on a case study on the community participationmechanism of Suzhou Industrial Park. With an overall demonstration of the practice,advantages, values and limitations of the case, the Author puts forward that theparticipating subjects of community should be multiple. Furthermore, government,market and society must play an active role in community at the same time and betweeneach other. Finally, by analyzing the limitations and shortness of the discussed case,expectations are addressed that this study will hopefully be instructive for improvementof community participation mechanism in China. |
