A Research On Regulated Collection And Application Of Handwriting Experimental Samples

Experimental handwriting samples as a type of handwriting sample have alwaysbeen an important part in handwriting identification. Experimental samples have beenheavily used in identification practice, sometimes as the major or even the onlyreference sample. However, experimental samples are also generally in low quality,often collected via informal procedures and constantly found to be fake. Theseproblems have directly interfered the well performing process of handwritingidentification. This article aims at seeking answer to settle such problems throughinductive analysis on the insufficiency of experimental handwriting sample and thereason causing such default, and trying to provide advice to the research on thenormalization of the collection and employment of experimental handwriting samples.This article has five sections. The first section is to set a foundation for thefollowing sections through the basic theories of experimental samples, which clearlyclassified the types of handwriting samples and the definition of experimental samples.This section will also talk about the importance and advantage of experimental samplein the process of handwriting identification, the conditions and requirement ofqualified experimental samples, as well as the significance of the theoretical andpractical researches of experimental samples.The second section will describe the current status of the employment ofexperimental samples in the practice of identification in China, and point out the outstanding problems thereof. This section will first indicate the increasingly frequentemployment of experimental samples in handwriting identifications, and then carryout a detail analysis on the problems as well as the cause of which in the person whocollects samples, the procedure and method used in the collection of samples, and thequality and quantity of such samples.The third section is trying to provide a standardized structure of the methods andtechnologies used to collect the samples. The procedure shall be formalized when thesamples are collected in public, and thorough preparation shall be required prior to thecollection. This section will talk about the detailed steps and methods in the collectionof experimental samples, and point out the issues in each step or method to whichattention needs to be paid.The fourth section focuses on the standardized employment of experimentalsamples. This section will provide the premises and requirement to use experimentalsamples and the circumstances that the experimental samples can be not accepted.Then it will discuss the analyzing and employment of experimental samples, andfinally focus on the issue of fake experimental samples, including the commonmethods on the recognition and the cloaking of experimental samples, as well as theemployment of fake experimental sample.The fifth sections provides several advises on the standardization of experimentalsamples through approaches like legislations, technic standards, quality control, etc.This section will discuss the significant impact of the legitimation of colleting persons,the formalization of collecting procedures, the standardization of quality supervisionon the standardization of experimental samples.This article provides an exploratory research on certain issues aboutexperimental handwriting samples to provide advises against the standardization ofthe collection and employment of experimental samples in handwriting identification.
