| This translation task is about a book which is written by the American diplomat Chester Holcombe, its English name is The Real Chinaman. The whole book is about10,0000 words and has 15 chapters. Two students carry out the translation task, and the translator translated Chapter IX to Chapter XV.Before the translation, the translator read and analyzed the original text to get a general idea about its content and the language style, consulted related data and made use of the internet resource to know the background information of the text, to resolve the difficult points in it, and decided specific strategies or methods in the translation process. The text requires the translators to follow the three principles of The Skopos Theory during translation, i.e. the translation should be in the target language environment and culture and take effect as expected by the accepter of the target language.The report focuses on the importance of The Skopos Theory and the specific translation strategies, and it analyzes the translation problems from two aspects:semantics and sentences. Aiming at various translation problems, the translators need to adopt appropriate strategies and methods so as to realize the communicative goals of the source text in the target text.Through the description of the translation assignment and case studies,conclusions are made as follows: when we solve translation problems, the purpose and function need to be firstly considered, meanwhile, the target readers’ response are needed to think over, then to decide which strategies should be taken; to solve translation problems, a profound understanding of the source text is a prerequisite; to guarantee the quality of the translation,it is important to have the tutor’s guidance and revise the translation text. |
