Abstract/Summary:
This thesis attempts to study liberty of thenatural state and political society, and to analyse and summarize the relation of liberty between self-preservation, fear, necessity,deliberation, the liberty of subjects, law, right and obligation. Then simply elaborates and analyses the problems and difficulties in Hobbes’ s theory of liberty.First, the passage simply analyses the natural state, natural right and natural law,these theories are the fundamental elements of Hobbes’ s theory of liberty. It also makes a preliminary understanding of the liberty in the natural state.Secondly, the passage discusses the theories such as self-preservation, fear,necessity and deliberation are not only in natural state, but also in political society,as well as analyses the relationship between these theories and liberty. Then it achieves the purpose of further understanding of Hobbes’ s theory of liberty.Again, the passage discusses the theories such as the liberty of subjects, law,deliberation etc. are in political society, as well as analyses the relationship between these theories and liberty. Then it achieves the purpose of more in-depth understanding of Hobbes’ s theory of liberty.At last, the passage gives a brief analysis of the difficulties and critiques in natural rights and individualism which are the fundamental theories of Hobbes’ s theory of liberty.
