David Harvey’s Literary Criticism Research Under Space View

"Spatial turn" has a significant impact on the western ideological circle in the contemporary society. Western academia began to form a correlative philosophy, including space, society, literature etc. Among them, David Harvey in the theoretical construction of space, reveals a new paradigm of Marxist literary criticism through specific space criticism.The first chapter analyzed the theme of "City" in David Harvey’s space criticism. This part mainly discusses the image of the "City", "City" landscape and "City" class problem in Harvey’s specific space criticism, thus in literary interpretation David Harvey shows the substance and appearance characteristics of the city of Paris.The second chapter inspected David Harvey’s characteristics of his space criticism. In this section, I would first affirm Harvey’s uniqueness and succession in his theory, exploring what features in his criticism would show differences in form, way, discourse, value orientation throughout Harvey’s literature space analysis, so as to understand and affirm the importance of his space criticism.The third chapter analyzed the new development which David Harvey brought to Marxist literary criticism. Harvey’s space criticism is the extension and expansion of the aesthetic significance of his concept of history--geographical materialism. On one hand, Harvey’s literature research proceeded on history and literary, on the other hand, it proceeded on literary and society. All in all, its a regression and transcendence of the study of Marxist literature.The conclusion summarized the methods of Harvey’s literary criticism, and approved his contribution of the two areas that enriched the literary criticism and space research. At the same time, we considered the current condition of the Chinese literature research, tried to find out the new way of literature research from Harvey’s literature interpretation.
