| Based on the translation practice of Chapter Two Problems, Controversies, and Solutions from the book Same-sex Marriage: A Reference Handbook, this English-Chinese translation report aims at the exploration of informative text translation from the perspective of Tytler’s Three Principles of translation. In an era of information explosion, informative text translation should be paid more attention to since it contributes a large proportion to the total texts. Translation study in modern China has focused too much on literary translation, leading to a lack of theories and strategies that can be efficiently applied to informative text translation.In this report, the author first introduces the content of source text and the main topic in it: same-sex marriage. The next part is the analysis of text type, Tytler’s three principles of translation and the guiding function it has in informative text translation. In case study, three strategies of literal translation with annotations, paraphrase and conversion are discussed with examples. The last part is the summary of what has been learned and left to be solved.In the conclusion of the translation report, the author discusses the guiding significance that Tytler’s Three Principles of translation have in informative text translation and analyzes the practical value of translation strategies of literal translation with annotations, paraphrase and conversion. |
