| This translation report gives analysis and displays translation process of Chapter8 and Chapter 11 of Developing Translation Competence by Christina Schaffner and Beverly Adab in Aston University Birmingham in 2012, which is the 41 st volume of Series of Foreign Countries’ Translation Study. These two chapters deal with the necessities and specific means of designing translation program at undergraduate level in European countries, and share the principles and experiences of the author through teaching translation towards function-dependent course typology.As a scientific work of translation study, Developing Translation Competence states different viewpoints about translation theory and teaching method that many well-known translators and linguists gained through experiences and study in this field.According to the Text Categorization Theory of Peter New mark, this translation project is classified as informative text. In addition, based on Nida’s Dynamic Equivalence theory, literal translation and free translation are adopted during translation, taking transliteration as the main method.This report consists of five chapters. The first chapter introduces the translation project including background information and significance of this project. Chapter two gives a thorough description of the text, and guiding theory is stated in Chapter three.Chapter four is case analysis at lexical and syntactic level, analyzing each sentence in a specific way to present every translation method and skill applied during translation.Chapter five comes to a conclusion of the translation process and personal reflection on the project. |
