| Translation quality is a central concern for both translation studies and translation industry, but translation quality assessment(TQA) still remains one of the most challenging areas of translation studies. Among the few ever empirically tested models for TQA, House’s Model is highly appreciated. But based on transferring between English and German, its applicability to C-E translation remains a question, which needs more empirical studies. Tourism texts as a comprehensive text type perform(at least) informative and vocative functions at the same time, so it means a lot both practically and theoretically to study the assessment of tourism translation. Sampling an introduction to Qingyan Ancient Town, this paper aims at testing the applicability of House’s Model to C-E translation of tourism texts and reviewing House’s Model for TQA.The paper firstly makes a brief review of studies on TQA home and abroad, those on House’s Model in particular. Then it makes a deep analysis of House’s Model, covering its theoretical background, fundamental concepts, different versions and operation steps. After that, the paper applies House’s Model to the English translation of an introduction to Qingyan Ancient Town and makes some reflections on House’s Model. At last the paper proposes some suggestions to the amendment of House’s Model.The paper draws the following conclusions: House’s Model with its complete theoretical background and specific operation steps can provide for a scheme for a comprehensive linguistic-textual analysis of ST and TT, with mismatches between the texts highlighted, and it can be used to assess translation quality of C-E tourism texts. And House’s Model has some embedded deficiencies, such as the overlapping parameters and some unnecessary parameters for C-E translation, so the paper proposes some suggestions for its amendment, such as omission of Process and addition of comparative analysis of the translated text with original parallel texts in the target language. |
