Chinese brush painting has long featured the tradition of “facsimileing the nature” and the standard of “similar to the image”.The artistic expression of concerning the nature has always been a basic requirement of Chinese brush painting. Since Sui Dynasty, Chinese brush painters have taken the real rivers and mountains as subject matter. Although there have been unrealistic and excessive immitating-the-old phenomenon in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the traditional spirit was once forgotten, the social changes of the 20 th century requires Chinese brush painting keeping abreast of the times. The tradition of“facsimileing the nature”has gradually become a artistic ideology ushering in a new era. The emphasis on real-life landscape has highlighted the different geographical features of Chinese brush paintings. Paintings with regional features have enjoyed universal prosperity, such as snow landscape in the Northeast region, Lijiang River in Guilin, Taihang Mountain in the north of China.Therefore, taking geography as a starting point of Chinese landscape painting will become the trend of the times and the practical requirements. Unlike Northern China’s pale and majestic landscape style, Guizhou has unique geographical features. It is also different from the southern stretch of beautiful scenery. Guizhou enjoys complicated and various geographical and cultural features. Its landscape wraps majesty, oddness, danger, steepness, tranquility and moist in one. With diverse ethnicity, various folk art, pure and honest folk costumers, its culture is ancient and strange. All of these offer Guizhou landscape paintings rich subjects and unique cultural nutrition. In terms of the development of Guizhou landscape paintings, the exploration of geographical influence on paintings is significant. This paper, from the perspective of geographical and cultural features, analyzes their unique influence and concrete expression on Guizhou landscape paintings.This paper is divided into introduction and four chapters. The introduction will cover research value, purpose and description of the content and current research situation. The first chapter will define the regional culture, and then introduce the Guizhou local natural and human environment, give a comprehensive display of geographical and cultural characteristics of Guizhou. The second chapter will sort out the history of regional Chinese landscape paintings,focuse on analyzing the reflection of regional culture on the Guizhou landscape paintings throughout the history. The third chapter discusses the impact of Guizhou’s regional culture on its related paintings from three aspects, mainly in The Lee Landscape Painting with obvious Guizhou’s characteristics, the magnitude of “decoration” in Guizhou landscape paintings, and love depicting local landscapes and makes a case study of successful landscape painters who are obsessed with painting their local landscape, and explore the expression and impact of its geographical characteristics. The fourth chapter concludes, through previous analysis, the general artistic respect of Guizhou landscape paintings, analyzes and reflects advantage and limitation of development of Guizhou landscape paintings.
