Georg Trakl is an important poet in the 20th century in Austria. This thesis concentrates on his death poetics, tries to figure out that firstly, how did "death" appear in his poems;Secondly, what new characteristics did his poems have after the introduction of the perspective of "death".In Iraki’s poems, to begin with, "death" appears to have three progressive levels:"the death of human","the death of menly consciousness" and "the death of ego";Then, under the perspective of "death",Trakl’s poems reflect three deepening levels:"the poem of eschatology", "the poem of resurrection" and "the poem of self’.These two aspects formed the "death poetics" of Georg Trakl. The introduction puts forward the question to be researched, establishes the method of research, generalizes the status of research of Trakl both at home and abroad, deflnes the related terms, and points out the innovation of this article. The first chapter"the poem of eschatology" argues that "death" is of god,and discusses the religious connotation the poet’s poems have under the influence of this nature of "death".This is the first phase of "death" and " death poetics".After analysing the eschatological thoughts that "dead people images" and the " time images" embody in his poems, the conclusion is:in Trakl’s poems, although "death" reflects the absolute position of god in terms of human, however, human hold time, which heralds the possibility that human could beat both god and death. The second chapter"The poem of resurrection" discusses the passion meaning of "death",as well as how it has been transcended by human. This is the second phase of "death" and "death poetics".This chapter argues that, the "failed passion" theme in his poems embodies both the questioning and profaning toward the power of god;And after the power of god has been abandoned, the poet tries to use his own power——"Androgyny" to resurrect human. However, the deterioration of the poet’s own psychological state causes the collapse of manly consciousness, thus indirectly declares the burst of the "Androgyny" ideal, and introduces "death" into human’s consciousness. The last chapter"The poem of self is mainly based on the theory of Lacan’s "mirror".This chapter discusses the last, and the deepest situation of "death" in Trakl’s poems——"the death of ego",and the philosophical meaning that his "death poetics" has.In Trakl’s poems, "the death of ego"reveals the subject’s destiny of alienation, and questions the authenticity of the subject, which is precisely the meaning of "death" and "death poetics".The conclusion points out the philosophical meaning of "death "in Trakl’s poems, and gives the "death poetics"a further expaination.
