On Achieving Functional Equivalence In Translation—A Translation Report On Economic Plurailsm

This MTI translation report pays attention to the analysis of methods the translator adopts when translating two chapters of Economic Pluralism, seeking to analyze how to achieve functional equivalence in translation.The translator chooses Chapter 14 and Chapter 18 from the Economic Pluralism, which is co-edited by Robert Garnett, Erik K. Olsen, Martha Starr, and published by Routledge in 2010. The content of these two chapters ranges from the evolving relationship between gift and market forms of economic cooperation to the pluralistic reform in graduate and undergraduate economics education. As a piece of economic literature, Economic Pluralism contains many economic terms and some long, complex sentences, which makes it all difficult to achieve functional equivalence in translation.This MTI translation report believes that in translating economic literature, Nida’s theory of "functional equivalence", also called theory of dynamic equivalence, is helpful in coping with the translation difficulties by analyzing classic examples in the translation.
