As a second language teaching, the development of teaching Chinese as a foreign language is satisfactory. When shifting the focus of our attention from the development of the whole to the specific teaching for a country or a teaching language point, we will find that there has been some progress, but not enough by far. For example, Chinese initials teaching is the beginning of the whole Chinese phonetic teaching, it also determines the quality of Chinese learning. Illustrated by the example of six Thai students in international college of Yunnan university, the paper analyses Thai students’ error during the course of their Chinese phonological acquisition and provides suggestions from the perspective of experimental phonetics, the author hopes that the research work could be helpful for the teaching of Chinese initials.This paper is divided into four parts:the first part of the paper discuss the status of initials teaching of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, research meaning of this topic and research object, and review the initial teaching method, research results, and the deficiency due to historical limitations, and propose theoretical support; The second part is the design of the questionnaire and the selection of the subjects, in order to make the results more credible, the reliability and validity of the questionnaire and the selection of the subjects are particularly important, it is also significant to consider subjects’Chinese language ability, the mastery of language knowledge and learning characteristics. In third part of the paper, six Thai students come from primary course, intermediate course and advanced course are selected in order to do questionnaire and phonetic analysis, and get the date of Thai students’error rate about learning initials through the survey and experimental phonetics theory, dividing the initials into several difficulty level and analyses the reason of the errors; Fourthly, formulating corresponding teaching methods.
