In teaching and learning Chinese as a foreign language,complex sentence is an important topic which is difficult to teach and learn.Even though purposive complex sentence is common in Chinese language,it is fairly complex because the correlative conjunction used in the sentence has similar meaning while having considerably different usage and foreigners frequently use it incorrectly.Purposive complex sentences in Chinese and Thai are not exactly the same.In fact,they are much different.This is the reason Thai students usually make mistakes when using purposive complex sentences.Presently,there is insufficient research on the errors in the use of purposive complex sentences by international students for the certain nationality.Therefore,this article uses Thai students in intermediate and advanced level as a target research by using error analysis method to analyze the patterns and reasons of error.Then,suggests the teaching solution.Hopefully,this research will be beneficial in teaching Chinese as a foreign language for purposive complex sentences.The research content of this article consists of 5 chapters as followsChapter 1 is the introduction.This chapter discusses the significance of this article,previous researches,theoretical basis,research methods and innovation point.Chapter 2 collects the natural corpus of the purposive complex sentences used by Thai students through the "HSK Dynamic Composition Corpus" of Beijing Language and Culture University and the "Written Language Corpus of Foreign Students" of Jinan University.Then,designs a questionnaire to investigate the understanding of purposive complex sentences by Thai students in the intermediate and advanced levels.Next,statistically summarize the usage of correlative conjunction in each purposive complex sentences and organize the errors in order to find the common and pattern of errors that occur when Thai students uses purposive complex sentences.Chapter 3 analyzes examples of incorrect sentence and the reasons from the perspectives of language negative transfer to students,target language knowledge transfer,impact of learning strategy,communication strategies,and learning environments.Chapter 4 suggests on writing textbooks,teaching and study solution of purposive complex sentences.Chapter 5 summarizes the research and conclusions of this article and review in complete parts.
