A Study Of Dialect Vocabulary In Shuo Fang Dao Zhi

Shuo Fang Dao Zhi, only a Ning Xia local chronicle in the Republic of China, is the most comprehensive chronicle recorded Ning Xia topolect specially in the history of Ning Xia, which is compiled by Ma Fuxiang, Chen Bihuai, Wang Zhicheng and so on before the Republic of China. Topolect vocabulary mentioned in the book has strong representative. Meanwhile, local specialty, folk-customs and others all saturate with strong local features. As a linguistician Edward Sapir goes, there must be something behind language. It cannot exist without culture. I learned about language integrated features of topolect vocabulary by the comments on Shuo Fang Dao Zhi, and then further realized multi-cultural folk-customs as well as Chinese and western combined products in Shuo Fangdao during the period of the Republic of China. Compared with ancient and modern vocabulary, we can know the changes of local specialty and folk-customs. Thus, the phenomenon of multicultural local conditions and customs is obvious hiding behind topolect vocabulary.In this paper, we understood Shuo Fang Dao Zhi in language point of view. There are four aspects as follow.First of all, I combed the transmutation of administrative districts, topolect regions, topolect areas and previous researches with the attitude getting to the root of the matter in the period of the Republic of China. In the meantime, the purpose and illustrated the research method in this study was summarized.Second, I conducted the commentary on the chapter recording topolect vocabulary exclusively in Shuo Fang Dao Zhi so that restored their original form of vocabulary and made us know exactly language usage of people in Shuo Fangdao during the period of the Republic of China.Third, I also commented on local specialty, folk-customs and other local vocabulary in order to broaden the research horizon of local vocabulary in Shuo Fang Dao Zhi. It made the research close to all aspects of daily life and penetrate into all fields of the topolect usage frequently. The most impotance is that enhance the multi-dimensionality of the research.Eventually, I explored and analyzed the phenomenon of multicultural local conditions and customs reflected by Shuo Fang Dao Zhi on the basis of local vocabulary commentary.Conclusion is a brief summary of the full text content.
