The translation report is based on the E-C translation practice of The Last Act of Love: the Story of My Brother and His Sister. The author of the report chooses chapter 1 to chapter 6 of the source text as translation cases in this report. The Last Act of Love:the Story of My Brother and His Sister is written by an English writer Cathy Rentzenbrink. As the family member of a vegetative patient, Cathy records their daily life and depicts the changes happening in their family. The book can help the readers know vegetative patients’ life. Because the book has no Chinese version, the author of the report makes the source text as the translation practice. In translating the book, the author of the report takes Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence as the guidance, aiming to explore the probability of "functional equivalence" in translating an autobiography. In addition, the source text contains some dialogues and monologues which could push the development of the whole story and portray different characters. They are the features of the source text. Base on the features, the author of the report discusses the translation techniques of the dialogues and monologues in autobiography in the report. She expects it could offer some references for other translators.
