A Comparative Study Of Chinese And Burmese Comparative Sentences

Based on the contrastive linguistics, as well as on the research of the comparative sentences of Chinese and Burmese language noumenona, applying three plane theories of grammar, theories of cognitive linguistics and the method of contrastive analysis of language, this thesis mainly conducts an research of the differences between Chinese and Burmese comparative sentences, which is comprised of six chapters:Chapter one is introduction, in which the purposes and significances of the research as well as a brief literature review on its current study are presented.In chapter two, both Chinese and Burmese comparative sentences are briefly instructed. On the basis of Ma Shi Wen Tong and Lv Shuxiang’s method of categorizing Chinese comparative sentences into equal comparison, unequal comparison and superlative comparison, as well as considering corresponding situation between Chinese and Burmese comparative sentences, this chapter compartmentalizes them as similitude comparison, analogy comparison and unequal comparison.In chapter three, a scrutinizing contrast of word, point, item and sentence structure between similitude comparative sentences "(?)"、"(?)"、" (?)"、"(?) W" in Burmese and“像Y一样W”in Chinese is conducted in order to figure out their similarities and differences.In chapter four, contrasts between analogy comparative sentences "(?)" in Burmese and Chinese“跟……一样(the same as) ", "(?)" and“有……W”are made and analysis on their negative forms to find out the similarities and differences of Chinese and Burmese analogy comparative sentences.In chapter five, unequal comparative sentences are divided into positive, negative and superlative comparisons, and a comparative study among them in Chinese and Burmese is conducted. Positive comparison mainly focuses on the contrast between Chinese"比字句(comparative sentence structure with Chinese character”比”)”and Burmese "(?)"; negative comparison on"比字句"and "(?)",and"不及or不如(less) "sentence structure and the negative form of "(?)"; the superlative comparison on the"最most" and "(?)"Chapter six is the conclusion with the general summary of the thesis, mainly involving the similarities and differences between Chinese and Burmese comparative sentenes.
