As the superstructure of social development, culture is affected by combined effect of multiple factors such as economy, politics, religion, and natural environment. In China, a vast multi-ethnic country, mountains, rivers, lakes and seas on the landform become the boundary of Chinese culture map, which provides superior natural conditions for the emergence and development of Jiangnan poetic culture. In the development of China’s long history, Jiangnan poetic culture has been suppressed by northern Qilu Culture for a long time. But since the Wei and Jin Dynasties, the elite culture of Chinese Scholar-bureaucrats in the Yangtze River Basin takes root and blossom gradually and forms into Jiangnan poetic culture with unique regional characteristics after dynasties.The paper will mainly discuss how the southern school of Erhu art gradually developed into the top of the school of Chinese Erhu and how it inherited the core of Jiangnan poetic culture and mingled with it in such circumstances.The paper is divided into three parts. First, trace back to the beginning of Jiangnan poetic culture and find out the core of it according to the concept and research methods of Jiangnan poetic culture proposed by Professor Liu Shilin. Second, discuss the inevitability of the succeed of Southern school of Erhu art by searching for the historical development of art of Erhu, and the rise of the new southern school of Erhu represented by Mr. Zhu Changyao. Third, discuss the influence of Jiangnan poetic culture on southern school of Erhu art and their relationship through the analysis of Zhu Changyao and his works.
