China is a large country, and the geography is very complex. Each region has its own customs, different dialect and living habits. The people from each region have created very different styles of music based on their own characteristics. For example, Chinese traditional opera and regional folk songs. The different styles of playing the Er-hu are, in part, a result of these influences. This essay researches the causes of the different playing styles, especially, between the Qin Er-hu and the Southern River Er-hu. The research is not only on the playing skills and the music traits, but also on external causes, such as: geography, climate and dialect.
