Under the support of the state to the ethnic areas of boarding school, Qinghai Tibetan inhabited areas of the boarding school is increasing. Qinghai Tibetan areas has a unique geographical location and social and cultural environment, establishment of boarding schools improve the school-age children enrollment rate and promoted the contribution of national unity, but due to restrictions on the condition of running a school and school management, the mental health problems of students become increasingly prominent. This study used the Eysenck personality questionnaire of the children’s and Eysenck personality questionnaire China simple scale edition, middle school students coping style scale and mental health of middle school students to survey 513 students in Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. In order to probe into the status of personality, coping style and mental health, and relationship among personality characteristics, coping style and mental health of the boarding school students in Qinghai Tibetan inhabited area.The results are as follows:(1)The personality characteristics of boarding middle school students are the majority, and the personality characteristics of minority students are typical and partly typical.(2)The coping style of boarding middle school students the in turn is patience, problem solving and retreat, help seeking, venting, illusion.(3) 23.4% of the boarding middle students have moderate psychological problems, and 1.4% of the students have heavier psychological problems. The most outstanding performance of the psychological problems are learning pressure, emotional instability, obsessive-compulsive symptoms.(4)Differences in gender, In the spiritual dimension, boys scored significantly higher than girls, and the difference was very significant(p<0.001), In the nervous dimension, girls scored significantly higher than boys, and the difference was very significant(p<0.001); In the backoff factor, girls scored significantly higher than males, the difference was very significant(p<0.001), On the vent factor, girls scored higher than boys, and the difference was significant(p<0.01); The boys and girls in the total average score of the mental health score did not differ, only in the depression factor scores, scores of girls are higher than boys,and there was significant difference(p<0.05).(5)Differences in grade, In psychoticism and neuroticism, grade one scored significantly lower than that of the rest, very significant difference(p<0.001); In solving problems and backoff factors on junior high school students scored higher than senior high school students’ scores, significant differences(p<0.05), In fantasy factor, the score of junior high school students was significantly higher than that of high school students, very significant difference(p<0.001); There were significant differences in the factors and the total score of different grades in mental health scale(p<0.001).(6)Differences in whether or not boarding, In the spiritual dimension, the score of the boarding students was higher than that of the non- boarding scores, and there is statistical difference(p<0.05), In the neuroticism, the score of the boarding students was higher than that of the non boarding scores, and the difference was significant(p<0.01); In the problem solving factor, students score lower than scores of students, and there were significant differences(p<0.05), In the backoff factor, students scored higher than the scores of students, and there were significant differences(p<0.05), In the vent, fantasy factor, the score higher than the non boarding students score, and the difference was significant(p<0.01); The total score of the students’ mental health was higher than that of the non boarding score, and the difference was significant(p<0.01).(7)Differences in nationality, personality characteristics, coping style and mental health were not differences.(8)psychoticism and neuroticism negatively related to problem solving, and positively related to illusions; The total score of mental, nervous, vent, fantasy, and mental health positively correlated with the total score of mental health, Problem solving negatively correlated with the total score of mental health.(9)Personality characteristics and coping style have a high prediction effect on the average score of mental health.But the indirect effect of personality characteristics on mental health through coping style is small.
