The Hui nationality of Qinghai province mainly distributes in the Xining region, Hualong county and Minhe county of Haidong region, Menyuan county of Haibei prefecture, Jianzha county of Huangnan prefecture, and Guide county of Hainan prefecture. As early as in the Tang and Song dynasties, the ancestors of Hui people in these areas entered Qinghai for various reasons. These Hui ancestors went into Xining through the Silk Road’s south road, which brought convenience of business. During Mongol-Yuan period, as a result of the several western expeditions and Mongol-Yuan empire’s establishment, a large number of central Asian Muslims went into Xining because of the business and missions, and they became the ancestors of Hui of Xining region. In the Ming and Qing dynasties, the Hui move into Xining as military immigration status, or due to commercial trade, or because of escaping disaster. In Haidong, Haibei and Huangnan, the reasons of the Hui immigration are refugee migration, government recruiting people and making them do farm work, doing business, other ethnic groups converting to Islam, etc. The Hui nationality from all kinds of regions in different period form the Hui ethnic group in QingHai.
