Tengchow College was founded in 1864. It was regarded as the first important stage of Shandong University and the beginning of higher education in contemporary China. Therefore, the historical documents about Tengchow College and its evolution and changes are of great value to the in-depth study and research on the history of Shandong University and that of higher education in China.The report is based on the translation practice of a series of historical documents of Tengchow College by author, entrusted by Shandong University. The report, taking the sentence as a basic unit, illustrates the functional role of Relevance Translation Theory in the translation of historical texts through examples of division, combination, amplification, shifting, negative translation and changing voices or types of the sentence. Based on this, the author put forward three practical strategies for the translation of historical documents, which are:translating in accordance with logical order, translating in chronological order and translating by adding notes.The report consists of five chapters:Chapter One introduces briefly about the translation practice report, including the background information, the objective and significance of the report and its organization. Chapter Two is an elaboration of the translation process, the historical evolution of Tengchow College, text analysis and translation theory. Chapter Three is a case analysis of translation of historical documents based on Relevance Translation Theory. Chapter Four introduces the three translation strategies applied to historical documents. The last chapter is the conclusion part of the whole translation practice and the report.
