This report is on the English-Chinese translation of Putting Architecture in its Social Place: A Cultural Political Economy of Architecture written by Paul Jones. In view of difficulties in the popular science works, this report makes some special case analysis in the source text(ST).In the process of translation, with the guidance of Relevance Translation Theory and with the principle of optimal relevance, the translator has regarded translation as the ostensive-inferential process and makes case analysis from three aspects,namely:(1)deducing the original author's intention and make it clear;(2)assuming readers' cognition context and meeting their expectation;(3)involving the least effort of readers and pursuing optimal relevance. This translation practice report is divided into five parts.Firstly, the report states the characteristics of the project and the feature of ST.Then the report is about the translation process of the project, including preparation before translation, solving the problems and difficulties in translation, and proofreading after the translation. The main part of the report is the case analysis.Under the guidance of Relevance Translation Theory, the report analyzes the translation mainly from three aspects, namely, lexical, syntactical and textual levels. In the part of translation practice is about the findings and conclusion that the Relevance Translation Theory could help translators to utilize conversion, inversion, division, omission and other translation skills to do better architectural translation, contributing to the development of Chinese architecture industry. The findings of the report could be a reference for the translation of architectural sociology.
