The report is based on the E-C translation practice of the fourth chapter of Writing English Research Papers under the guidance of Skopos Theory. The rules of Skopos Theory are followed and various translation methods are employed during the translation process based on the characteristics of the source text. This report aims to apply the requirements of Skopos Theory to achieve the requirements of coherence in the target language. The report falls into five chapters. Chapter One is task description, which aims to introduce the source text and the target reader. Chapter Two deals with the translation process introduction, including pre-translation preparation, translation process, proofreading and modification. Chapter Three is about the guiding theory of this translation. Skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule are introduced so as to present the combination between Skopos Theory and the translation. Chapter Four is case analysis. In the main body of the report, the translator analyzes some typical cases in terms of word, sentence and text. To translate words under the guidance of skopos rule, the methods of literal translation and free translation are adopted; the methods of division, addition and negation are employed to handle the sentence translation under the guidance of coherence rule; and to achieve the coherence of the text, the translator illustrates how she has done through the methods of coherence and cohesion. Gains and losses from this translation practice are discussed in Chapter Five, the Conclusion.
