In recent years, more and more overseas video open courses have been introduced into China. As a valuable resource of acquiring advanced knowledge, such open courses appeal to a large number of students as well as intellectuals. However, these useful video resources have not been translated very well. The subtitle translation of video open courses has its own characteristics. Although there is a lot of domestic and foreign research on subtitle translation, most of it is on that of films and TV plays and studies on the subtitle translation of video open courses are seldom touched upon. Therefore, we need to explore translating methods of this type based on its text features. This report takes the subtitle translation of video open course Mindfulness as the object of research and takes Skopos theory as its theoretical guidance.Through the analysis of the process and cases of translation, it summarizes the characteristics of subtitle texts of video open courses, discusses the principles of subtitle translation, and puts forward corresponding solutions to the problems encountered in the process of translation.Under the guidance of Skopos theory, this report focuses on discussing how to adopt appropriate translation methods so as to make the translated version faithfully convey the meanings and information of the source text and meanwhile conform to the special format requirements of subtitle translation.Through the summary and reflection of the translation practice, the author hopes to provide some references and suggestions not only for translators of subtitles of video open courses, but also for the study of subtitle translation.
